Add JewishInsider on GoogleFormer President Barack Obama is set to campaign on Oct. 24 in Detroit with Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed and gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson, around the beginning of early voting in the state.
Holding the Michigan Senate seat is among Democrats’ top priorities in the midterm elections. Polling has shown the race between El-Sayed and Republican former Rep. Mike Rogers is highly competitive, with Republicans making the seat one of their top targets.
El-Sayed has struggled to consolidate support from Jewish Democratic voters and is also working to win over Black voters.
El-Sayed campaigned over the weekend with Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), their first joint appearance since El-Sayed became the nominee.
