Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is expected to meet with leaders of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations (COP) in New York next week, Jewish Insider has learned.

Pompeo’s meeting with the conference next Tuesday comes just weeks ahead of the administration’s expected peace plan rollout and amid heightened tensions with Iran.

Morton Klein, President of the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA), a member group of the COP, welcomed Pompeo’s appearance. “Secretary Pompeo is arguably the greatest friend Israel has ever had in that position,” Klein told Jewish Insider on Tuesday. “I am sure that whatever proposal the administration lays out, it will take Israel’s security and other interests into account. Pompeo can be trusted to not do anything of harm to Israel.”

On Wednesday evening, Secretary Pompeo will deliver the keynote address at the annual Israel Independence Day celebration hosted by the Israeli Embassy in Washington.
