Boost for Meadowlands – Approval of Bonds Program Renews Hope in the American Dream Development: “The long-delayed retail-and-entertainment complex next to MetLife MET -0.57% Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., is close to clearing a major financial hurdle with government approval of a plan to sell about $750 million in bonds to help fund its completion and expansion. In another positive sign, settlement talks are under way between the project’s owner, Triple Five owned by the Ghermezian family, and New York Jets and Giants over a lawsuit the teams filed relating to Triple Five’s plans to expand the project to include a water park and amusement park, according to people familiar with the matter. A spokesman for Triple Five declined to discuss the legal situation but said that the outcome of the lawsuit will have no effect on the developer’s plans to begin construction in the first quarter of 2014. He said that preliminary site work already has commenced, and the developer is “targeting” the first quarter of 2014 as a construction start date. Triple Crown plans to finance the new construction with the bonds, about $200 million in equity and commercial borrowing.
