Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) is leaning into his work to combat antisemitism as he launches his general election campaign, airing a new advertisement on the subject on digital platforms.
After beating an anti-Israel Democratic Socialists of America-aligned candidate in the primary, Moskowitz, who is Jewish, now faces former Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer, who is also Jewish and has pledged to be vocal against antisemitism as a member of Congress.
The newly drawn 25th district in coastal South Florida has one of the largest Jewish populations in the country, which has historically been strongly supportive of Moskowitz.
The black-and-white ad opens with footage from the Holocaust, with voiceover by Moskowitz, stating, “In every generation, they rise against us,” and discussing the murder of his great-grandparents in Auschwitz and his grandmother’s escape from the Holocaust. The ad does not include specifics, but Moskowitz’s grandmother was part of the Kindertransport that evacuated Jewish children from Germany between 1938 and 1940.
Standing in front of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., in his district, the site of the deadliest school shooting in U.S. history, Moskowitz highlighted that the gunman had carved swastikas into his weapons.
“That’s why I’ve fought antisemitism and have led bipartisan efforts to increase security and synagogues and Jewish nonprofit centers, and expand education so we can stop hate crimes before they happen,” Moskowitz said. “Because never again is now.”
Moskowitz’s campaign did not disclose the size of the ad buy.
