Winning the War?: On CNN, Brett McGurk, who formerly served in senior national security positions, challenges the narrative that Iran has won the war with the U.S. “The earlier acts in this war were mired from the US side by shifting and ill-defined objectives, widely careening positions, and inconsistent statements. But Act Four seems different. The US military has a clear objective as outlined this week by the commander of CENTCOM, Admiral Brad Cooper. It is enforcing the blockade on Iran and facilitating the movement of commercial traffic. The objective for the US should be similarly well-defined. Iran must abandon claims on the Strait and give up the nuclear enrichment program. Until then, this will be the new status quo. And that status quo — perhaps for the first time since the war began — now favors Washington, not Tehran.” [CNN]

Patience is a Virtue: Adolfo Franco, a Republican strategist who served as a surrogate for President Donald Trump’s 2016 and 2024 presidential campaigns, argues in Al Jazeera that the president’s pressure campaign against Iran is working to weaken the regime. “The lesson of the past six months is not that pressure has failed to produce capitulation. It is that pressure takes longer than a news cycle to produce capitulation from a radical theocratic regime that is willing to reduce its populace to bare subsistence rather than compromise. … Six months into the conflict, the US has not won this war. Defense Ministry Director General Amir Baram (left) and his Greek counterpart, Ioannis Bouras, signed an approximately €3 billion “Achilles Shield” defense export agreement on Monday in a ceremony at the ministry’s headquarters in Tel Aviv. According to the ministry, this is the largest defense export deal in the history of Israel-Greece relations, and will see Jerusalem build Athens a multilayered air-defense array based on Israeli systems architecture.
