President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that the war with Iran played a role in the Democratic sweep in the midterm elections.
“Iran was a piece of it,” Trump said in a telephone interview with The Wall Street Journal, pointing to the rise in oil prices as a key issue. Trump added, “I did the right thing. I would have done it again.”
“The biggest issue,” Trump said, “is that I wasn’t on the ballot.”
In similar comments to Fox News, Trump said of the Republican losses, “I think a part of it was Iran, but at the same time people understood the importance of what I’ve done with Iran.”
He also said of the Democrats, “They’ll send over things that are insane, and I’ll veto them. And after a couple of months of vetoes, they’ll call and they’ll say, ‘How do we get this stuff done?’ And we’ll work together.”
