Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) won reelection on Tuesday evening in coastal South Florida by five points, 52%-47%, with 95% of the vote counted, despite GOP efforts to redraw the seat to favor Republicans.
Moskowitz, among the most vocal pro-Israel Democrats in the House, leaned into his efforts to support the Jewish state and combat antisemitism to maintain support among the district’s substantial Jewish community.
His opponent, former Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer, who is also Jewish, also pitched himself as a strong supporter of Israel.
The district, as redrawn by Florida Republicans earlier this year, voted for President Donald Trump by nine points in 2024.
“Tonight, South Florida sent a clear message: voters want leaders who think for themselves, stand up to extremes, and deliver results. This district was re-drawn to defeat me. Voters had other plans,” Moskowitz said in a statement. “Throughout this campaign, I never changed who I am or what I believe. I stood up to the extremes on the left that targeted me in the primary and to the extremes on the right that spent more money against me than anyone in Florida history.”
He promised that he would continue fighting antisemitism on the far right and far left, and “will never let party politics determine when I speak out.”
The seat is one of several that Republicans had hoped to flip after redistricting efforts, in which Democrats have won or are leading — suggesting that the GOP redistricting effort backfired on the party.
