State Department plans memorial for American victims of Oct. 7 attack

Add JewishInsider on GoogleThe State Department is planning a memorial ceremony for American victims of the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attacks on Israel, currently scheduled for Sept. 30.
The event is being planned in collaboration with the American Jewish Committee, which is helping to bring families of the victims to Washington to attend, an AJC spokesperson told Jewish Insider.
Ruby Chen, father of Itay Chen, an American citizen killed by Hamas on Oct. 7 whose body was taken hostage in Gaza for more than two years, has been advocating for a memorial for the 46 Americans killed on Oct. 7 and in Hamas custody.
Chen told JI earlier this month that he had been in touch with senior members of the administration about a potential memorial, and that they had expressed support.
