Sen. Jon Husted (R-OH) joined Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH) in calling on Rep. Max Miller (R-OH), Moreno’s former son-in-law, to drop out of his reelection race and resign from Congress amid growing scrutiny of domestic violence allegations against Miller.

Sen. Moreno called for Miller, one of the few Jewish Republicans in the House, to resign on Sunday. Miller denies the allegations, and released documents he claimed exonerated him, but have only further fueled scrutiny.

“Anyone who commits domestic violence is not fit to serve in Congress. The House Ethics Committee should thoroughly investigate any credible allegations, and any member found to have committed domestic violence should resign from Congress immediately,” Husted said on X.

The House Ethics Committee initiated an investigation of Miller earlier this week, following a request by Miller himself, which he said would clear him of any wrongdoing.

He said that Miller’s daughter’s “best interests should come first” and that the family’s disputes should be hashed out in private, not in public.

“Given everything they are facing, I do not see how a campaign for Congress benefits any of them,” Husted continued. “I believe Max would be making the right decision to step aside as a candidate and resign from Congress to focus on what is in the best interest of his daughter. Years from now, I believe he will look back and know it was the right choice for her.”

Several other GOP lawmakers have called for Miller to resign in recent days, and Miller said that President Donald Trump told him earlier this week that he thought it would be difficult for Miller to win reelection. But Miller has said he will not end his campaign under any circumstances.

Miller faces an increasingly uphill battle for reelection, facing union organizer and ironworker Brian Poindexter.
