Matt Brooks, the CEO of the Republican Jewish Coalition, warned this week that anti-Israel sentiments that he said have taken over the Democratic Party are beginning to infiltrate the Republican Party and require a strong response.
The remarks are notable from an organization that has long framed the Republican Party as the pro-Israel party, and reflect growing concerns from more traditional conservatives about growing isolationist sentiments within the GOP.

The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee is set to meet on Wednesday to vote on the Antisemitism Awareness Act, in what could be a contentious meeting with a slew of potential amendments, some of which seek significant changes to the bill.
Wednesday’s vote will begin to reveal the extent of both parties’ opposition to the long-gestating legislation, which passed the House in 2024 but never received consideration in the Senate. The committee will also mark up the Protecting Students on Campus Act.

Harvard University’s long-awaited dual reports on antisemitism and Islamophobia, released on Tuesday, reveal a campus beset by tension and simmering distrust — as well as a university struggling to handle competing claims of discrimination, animosity and exclusion made by Jewish and Muslim students.
In the 300-page antisemitism report, which was made public amid alumni frustration and pressure from the Trump administration, Harvard commits to partner with an Israeli university; provide additional resources for the study of Hebrew and Judaic studies; host an annual academic symposium on antisemitism; ask the leadership of Sidechat, a social media app that allows college students to post anonymously, to enforce its content moderation policies; and launch a pilot program in the business school addressing contemporary antisemitism.

House Education and Workforce Committee Chair Tim Walberg (R-MI) wrote to Northwestern University President Michael Schill on Monday summoning him to appear before the committee for a transcribed interview about alleged failures to protect Jewish students on the Illinois campus, nearly a year after Schill gave testimony at a committee hearing.
Walberg said Schill has failed to live up to his own commitments made at the May 23, 2024, hearing, where he pledged to take a series of steps to combat campus antisemitism, investigate incidents of antisemitic harassment and pursue disciplinary proceedings.

House committees are beginning work this week on Republicans’ reconciliation package, the massive federal budget bill that would implement key elements of President Donald Trump’s agenda, including extending tax cuts and implementing budget increases and reductions across the federal government.
A major plank of the reconciliation bill is a $150 billion increase in defense spending, part of a push by hawkish Republicans to significantly boost the Pentagon budget in the coming years, which they say has failed to keep pace with China and other U.S. adversaries. The House Armed Services Committee will vote on those provisions on Tuesday. The House is aiming to pass the complete reconciliation package before Memorial Day.

Rep. Greg Landsman (D-OH) told Jewish Insider following a visit to Israel and Jordan last week that there is a “unique, potentially generational opportunity” to change the Middle East if the U.S. can help put an end to Iran’s nuclear weapons program and its support for regional terrorism.
Landsman also told JI he’s working on legislation to create a bipartisan select committee focused on Middle East peace, an initiative he said would help elevate the issue and find bipartisan solutions.
