Rep. Israel: Dems Cleaning Up Trump’s Mess with NATO Allies

Democratic Congressman Steve Israel (NY), speaking said at a press conference on the U.S. Capitol on Thursday, said that American leaders are being forced to clean up the mess Republican nominee Donald Trump has created with his comments about NATO and U.S. allies being abandoned if they don’t pay up their fair share.

Returning from a congressional trip to Afghanistan and Italy – both NATO members, Rep. Israel said, “I felt like we should have brought brooms and mops to clean up the damage that Donald Trump is creating for those allies and those partners, to clean up the mess — the national security mess that he has created.”

The retiring Congressman said that the group of lawmakers had to reassure the Italians and Afghan leaders that the U.S. is not going to abandon them and weaken them as a NATO ally.

“When it comes to national security, it’s not just the Republicans are doing nothing, they are actually doing damage to our national security,” he asserted.
