Saban Hits Trump, Boasts Hillary on Israel

Billionaire Haim Saban on Saturday called Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump a “clown” whose unpredictability would make him dangerous to Israel should he win the White House in the fall.

In an interview with Israel’s Channel 2 on Saturday, Saban, a prominent supporter of Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton, said that Trump is “dangerous for the world, and since Israel is part of the world, therefore he’s dangerous to Israel.”

“He’s unpredictable. It’s very hard to know what he’s really thinking,” Saban explained. “One day he gives an interview to an Israeli paper and says you’ll never have had such a friend in the White House from the moment I’m president. A day later they ask him about the situation in the Middle East and he says, no, I’ll be neutral, I’m from the UN. I won’t intervene.”

Saban was referring to Trump’s recent comments, in which he suggested that he would take a ‘neutral’ approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Trump clarified his comments by explaining that the approach he took is an effort to broker a peace settlement between Israel and the Palestinians. “I am very pro-Israel,” he said during last week’s GOP debate on CNN. “I would love to do something with regard to negotiating peace, finally, for Israel and for their neighbors. And I can’t do that as well if I’m taking big, big sides. With that being said, I am totally pro-Israel.”

“It’s impossible to know with him,” Saban stressed. “Every day is something different.”

Saban later backtracked his charge against Trump, saying, “I can’t tell you whether it’ll be good or bad for Israel. I can tell you it will be indeterminable.”

Making the case for the Democratic would-be successor to President Obama, Saban told Channel 2, “Hillary Clinton will be excellent” for those who “believe in the two-states for two peoples.” He also expressed hope that she would get along with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “in the most effective manner imaginable” because, in his view, Netanyahu is still committed to the two-state solution.”
