Overview

Jewish Insider is looking for an ambitious politics reporter with strong news judgment, an understanding of American politics and a drive to break news.

We’re looking for someone who follows politics closely, knows how to develop sources and is eager to chase down stories. The ideal candidate is comfortable working on deadlines, cultivating relationships across the political spectrum and finding original angles on the campaigns, politicians and issues shaping the national conversation.

Responsibilities

• Report and write original stories on national politics, elections, campaigns and Congress.
• Develop and maintain sources among elected officials, campaign staff, strategists and policy experts.
• Break news and identify the stories that deserve closer attention.
• Cover political events and campaigns relevant to JI’s readers.
• Pitch and pursue enterprise stories alongside timely reporting on deadline.
• Contribute reporting to the Daily Kickoff and JI’s other editorial products.

Qualifications

• Experience covering politics, government, campaigns or public policy, with clips to show for it.
• Strong news judgment and a record of developing sources and breaking news.
• Command of the American political landscape and the national news cycle.
• Ability to work independently on deadline and respond quickly to breaking news.
• Familiarity with JI’s coverage areas, or the ability to develop expertise quickly.
• Commitment to accuracy, fairness and high editorial standards.
