Three GOP Hopefuls Rally Iowans in Support of Israel
As the nation was tuned in to watch the first Democratic presidential primary Tv debate (well, at least 14 million) – which lacked the mentioning of Israel – three Republican presidential candidates urged Iowa voters to stand with Israel.
Bobby Jindal, Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum addressed some 200 evangelicals gathered at an event called “The Jerusalem Call,” in Iowa City. The event was described as “a call to engagement, a call to advocacy, a call to stand with God’s promises to the Jewish people, the Land of Israel and the city of Jerusalem.”
According to the former Arkansas Governor, the United States of American must keep its promises to Israel, just as God has kept his promises to the Jewish people. According to a report by The Gazette, Huckabee also said Christians cannot break up with Jews. “You can be a Jew and have nothing to do with Christianity,” Huckabee was quoted as saying. “One cannot be a Christian and be isolated from the Jews. It’s about Biblical authority.”
Santorum described himself as a leader who is familiar with the enemy Israel and the U.S. faces in the war against terror. “The enemy knows me, and I know them,” Santorum reportedly said. “With Rick Santorum as president on Day 1, they will know we have someone who understands them and someone who will stop them from bringing about the end of Israel.” He also touted his record on Iran and his introduction of sanction during his tenure in the Senate. “Those were the sanctions that brought Iran to the table,” Santorum said. “Why? Because they were working. They were making it difficult for Iran to develop their nuclear program.”
Jindal, like his GOP competitors, slammed the Irna nuclear deal and vowed to tear it up in 2017.
