Jewish Insider is hiring a Breaking News Editor to lead a fast-paced team covering urgent developments across U.S. politics, Israel, foreign policy and the American Jewish community.

This editor will run point on speed, accuracy and news judgment — assigning stories, editing quickly and cleanly, and ensuring coverage meets Jewish Insider’s editorial standards. The ideal candidate thrives under pressure, understands how to prioritize in a crowded news cycle, and can guide reporters to deliver clear, authoritative coverage on tight deadlines.

This is a leadership role for someone who believes that fast journalism must also be precise journalism.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of breaking news reporters
  • Set priorities and assign coverage based on news value and audience relevance
  • Edit stories quickly for clarity, accuracy, tone and standards
  • Ensure coverage reflects strong sourcing and sound news judgment
  • Make rapid decisions about what requires immediate coverage versus deeper follow-up
  • Coordinate with senior editors on developing stories
  • Uphold editorial guidelines and maintain consistency in voice and quality
  • Monitor major news developments across U.S. and Israeli politics and global affairs
  • Help shape workflows that allow the team to move quickly without sacrificing rigor

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of newsroom experience, including editing breaking news
  • Demonstrated ability to lead under deadline pressure
  • Strong news judgment, particularly in politics and foreign policy
  • Deep familiarity with U.S. politics, Israel, or both
  • Experience managing reporters or coordinating coverage
  • Ability to edit clean copy quickly and decisively
  • Commitment to high editorial standards
