Chelsea Clinton Crowd Shuts Down Anti-Israel Protester

An anti-Israel protester attempting to disrupt a Hillary for America campaign event headed by Chelsea Clinton in Ithaca, NY, earlier this week was drowned out by loud chants of “Hillary, Hillary, Hillary,” a video published on Thursday showed.

“Our children need a world where they do not live under repressive regimes,” the protester, identified as Ariel Gold of Code Pink, interrupted Chelsea’s remarks as she addressed more than a hundred Hillary Clinton supporters inside of Coltivare Restaurant in Ithaca, according to WENY. “Hillary Clinton provides unconditional support for Israel, despite illegal occupation of Palestine and violations of international law… Why is Hillary trying to take away our First Amendment right to boycott apartheid Israel?”

The crowd started chanting “Hillary! Hillary!” and “Goodbye, we don’t care what you have to say,” as she was escorted out by security guards.

It is unclear if the crowd was upset at the protester’s chants against Israel or simply that she was interrupting Chelsea’s remarks. The fact is the Code Pink protestor was shut down quickly. The crowd’s response was a departure from the loud, and enthusiastic response Bernie Sanders got when he criticized Israel’s conduct during the 2014 war against Hamas in Gaza.

“In general, I don’t mind being interrupted,” Chelsea Clinton said after the event. “I think one of the great parts of being American is that we have free speech. I also think that free speech comes with the responsibility to listen. So I have the responsibility to listen. I wish they had stayed long enough to ask whatever question they were protesting about so that I could’ve had the chance to respond and maybe then we could’ve had a conversation.”
