David Lichtenstein to Host Hillary Fundraiser in NYC

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton will be attending a high-dollar fundraiser in New York City just two weeks before the Iowa caucuses, where she’s being challenged by rivals Bernie Sanders and Martin O’Malley.

According to an invitation obtained by Jewish Insider, David Lichtenstein, Chairman and CEO of The Lightstone Group, will be hosting a $2,700-per-head fundraiser for Hillary in New York City on Thursday, January 14, 2016.

“This will be one of Secretary Clinton’s only NYC visits In January and February. I ask that you join us and offer your support for the Future President of the United States,” Lichtenstein writes in the invitation.

In 2008, Lichtenstein hosted two fundraisers for Hillary, including one at his home in the Orthodox Jewish enclave in Lakewood, NJ. The visit to Lakewood drew some backlash, according to a post by The Yeshiva World. Lichtenstein went onto the Zev Brenner show, a NY-based Jewish public radio station, claiming that Lakewood Yeshiva (BMG) “asked” him to host the fundraiser.

Lichtenstein also owns the Hampton Inn at Des Moines International Airport. According to a report by Yahoo Politics, current and former Obama staffers underlined the President’s fondness for the Hampton Inn in Iowa. “He stayed there in ’07, ’08… sees it as a little bit good luck,” one former aide was quoted as saying. Obama stayed there for so many nights during that campaign that hotel staff “had it down to a science,” putting the future president in a room near an exit so that his comings and goings wouldn’t bother other guests, an adviser told Yahoo News. David Plouffe also mentions it in his book “The Audacity to Win.” Hillary preferred to stay at the Hotel Fort Des Moines, owned by Raj Patel, according to Plouffe.
