Cuomo Praises Bloomberg Amid Talks of Independent Run

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo had only nice things to say about Michael Bloomberg after reports emerged that the former Mayor of New York City is considering a third-party run for president.

“Michael Bloomberg is a friend. He was the mayor at the same time I was governor – we overlapped. I’ve known him for a long time,” Cuomo told Jewish Insider following a pro-Israel event in Manhattan on Monday. I think he’s a good man.”

But Cuomo said that he’s currently supporting Hillary Clinton for president in the Democratic primaries. “I support Hillary Clinton for president; I worked with her for eight years in Washington. I’ve watched her as Senator of New York. I think she’s supremely qualified to be president of the United States.”

Despite recent polls that suggest her rival, Bernie Sanders is gaining on Hillary in national polls and both are locked in a dead heat in the Iowa Caucuses, the New York Governor said: “I think she is going to win, and I think that’s going to be a good thing for the country.”

As first reported by the NY Times, Bloomberg told his associates he would be willing to spend $1 billion of his own money on a White House bid if it appeared Trump or Cruz would face Bernie Sanders in the general election.

“I wish Michael nothing but the best,” Cuomo told Jewish Insider.

Speaking to reporters, Cuomo also said he has no regrets deciding against a run for president in 2016. “I am a happy, happy man. I think it was a blessing that I had that opportunity. So I have nothing but gratitude,” he said. “I don’t have any second thoughts about any political decision I’ve made. Period.”
