Hillary Clinton remains the favorite U.S. presidential candidate in the eyes of the Israeli public, while a plurality think a Trump administration would better serve Israeli government’s interests

According to the Israel Democracy Institute’s monthly Peace Index poll, 38.5 percent of Israeli Jews think Trump is the better presidential candidate for Israel, while 33 percent think Clinton would be better for Israel.

Nevertheless, by a nine percentage-point margin, more Israelis (43 percent vs. 34 percent) want Clinton to win the presidential elections in the fall.

Israeli Jews on the right prefer Trump (49 percent) over Clinton (23 percent). Israelis on the left, overwhelmingly prefer Clinton (86%) over Trump (9%), and among those in the center, Clinton is preferred 57 to 23 percent.

The last time the polling firm interviewed the Israeli public about the presidential candidates, 40 percent of Israeli Jews saw Clinton as the preferable presidential candidate from the standpoint of Israel’s interests, while 31 percent thought Trump would be better for Israel.

This month’s poll also shows that 40 percent of Israeli Arabs thin that Clinton will, in fact, be better from the standpoint of the Israeli government’s policy, while 31 percent think both candidates will be good for Israel and only 14 percent expect Trump to be better. On the question of personal preference, 58 percent favor Clinton over Trump (11 percent), with 31 percent of respondents saying they don’t have a preferable choice.

A large majority of both the Jewish and the Arab public (62 percent) expects that Clinton will win the November 8 election in the United States. Only less than a quarter think the winner will be Donald Trump, and the rest do not know.
