Netanyahu: There’s Only One Jewish People

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday urged the American Jewish community to unite and come together to heal the wounds in the aftermath of the Iran nuclear deal the same way he put the Iran deal in the past in his relationship with the Obama administration.

Addressing the Jewish Federations of North America’s General Assembly in Washington DC Tuesday, Netanyahu acknowledged that the past year “has not been simple” as “passions ran high, the stakes were even higher.” But he pointed out that we must remember “that no matter what disagreement there are between Israel and the United States, Israel has no better friend than America and America has no better friend than Israel.”

The second thing he stressed was that “No matter what disagreements there’s been within the Jewish community” in the debate over the Iran deal, “maintaining the unity of our people is of paramount importance. There’s only one Jewish people and only one Jewish State. Now more than ever, we must work together to unite the Jewish people and secure the Jewish state.”

Despite the disagreement over the Iran deal, Netanyahu said, “I believe that American and Israel can and should work together” to make sure that Iran complies with the terms of the deal and that the U.S. tackles Iran’s sponsor of terrorism in the region.
