Boteach Fundraising for NYT Ad Against Kerry

Rabbi Shmuley Boteach is not relying on some of his friends to take out an advertisement criticizing Secretary of State John Kerry over his recent comments regarding the recent wave of terror in Israel.

This time, he’s outsourcing it to the public by launching a fundraising campaign on the Go Fund Me site.

“In the last few weeks, the Jewish State has once again been under attack. Palestinian terrorists have slashed, stoned, shot, and rammed to death scores of innocent Jews … But Secretary of State John Kerry blames the victims, saying: “There’s an increase in the violence because there’s this frustration that’s growing,”” Boteach writes.

The goal is to raise $37,500 for a full-page ad in The New York Times before the end of this week so that it can be published in Saturday’s print edition. So far, only $2,941 was raised from small contributions by 78 individuals.

“The ad will call out John Kerry for his hypocritical disapproval of Israel, which can be easily misused to instigate the murder of more Jews,” Boteach states.

The last time Boteach took out an ad against an administration official he was forced to apologize. In a full-page ad in The New York Times back in March, ahead of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s controversial speech to Congress, Boteach claimed National Security Advisor Susan Rice of turning a blind eye to genocide. He later apologized in a personal letter to Rice.

On Wednesday, Kerry noted in a speech at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington, DC, that the current wave of violence has hurt both Israelis and Palestinians. “The current situation is simply not sustainable,” he said. “It is vital Israel take steps that empower Palestinian leaders to improve economic opportunities, quality of life for their people. It is equally important for Palestinian leaders to cease the incitement of violence and to offer something more than rhetoric.”
