Former Virginia Senator Jim Webb has formally dropped out of the Democratic presidential primary race in 2016.

“I fully accept my views on many issues are not compatible with the power structure of the Democratic party,” Webb said during a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington, DC, on Tuesday. “Hierarchy is not comfortable with many of the policies that I have laid forth, and frankly I am not that comfortable with many of theirs. For that reason I am withdrawing from any consideration of being the Democratic Party’s nominee for the presidency.”

Webb was the only Democratic presidential candidate to oppose the Iran nuclear deal. In the first televised debate, Webb maintained that the “deal allowing Iran to move forward and eventually acquire a nuclear weapon” sent bad signals into the region “about whether we are acquiescing in Iran becoming a stronger piece of the formula in that part of the world.”
