Over 100 Congressmen Urge Trump to Move Embassy to Jerusalem

WASHINGTON – More than 100 GOP Congressman wrote a letter on Wednesday to President-elect Donald Trump advising him to transfer the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. “Moving the Embassy will strengthen the unique alliance between Israel and the United States and send a clear message to the world that we support Israel in recognizing Jerusalem as its eternal capital,” the lawmakers noted in the letter first obtained by Free Beacon.

During the campaign, Trump repeatedly promised to move the American diplomatic post to Jerusalem. When announcing the selection of David Friedman as the next Ambassador to Israel last month, the Trump transition team explained that the nominee intends to work from the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem.

The GOP officials noted that transferring the Embassy would be an appropriate response to the December United Nations Security Council resolution 2334, which assailed Israel for its continued settlement construction. The legislators also called on Trump to implement the move “as soon as you take office” after January 20.
